How to prepare for your appointment
Do not wear makeup on the day of your treatment
Excess hair may need to be shaved. Men should be clean-shaven.
No sun-tanning or self-tanners 4 weeks prior to treatment. This includes spray tans, tanning lotions, tanning beds, sun exposure, etc.
Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment (waxing, depilatories, etc.)
Notify your provider of any changes to your health history or medications since your last appointment
History of herpes or cold sores may require an anti-viral prescription prior to treatment
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR APPOINTMENT
• Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time.
• The treatment should take approximately 30 minutes.
• No numbing is required.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT
Avoid sun exposure and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen to prevent further sun damage
Bruising, redness, and swelling may occur and will resolve with time
Avoid heat – hot tubs, saunas, etc. for 48 hours
Avoid skin irritants such as tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc. 2-3 days post-treatment
The treated pigment will darken within 24-48 hours
Do not pick at treated areas
The treated pigment will exfoliate off the face in approximately 1 week
The treated pigment will exfoliate off of your body in approximately 2-3 weeks
Notify our office of concerns (blistering, excessive redness/swelling, etc.)
Consult with your provider on when to resume your regular skincare regimen

How does it work?
Pico Genesis treatments are surprisingly gentle. A non-invasive laser treatment, the non-ablative laser energy means that the surface of your skin is not injured by the laser; instead, the pressurized energy from the Pico Genesis patented Pressure Wave photoacoustic laser means that multiple layers of your skin can be penetrated without causing damage. Likewise, some other laser treatments injure the skin to stimulate natural regeneration, but Pico Genesis only requires thermal energy to stimulate the production of collagen and the turnover of new cells.

To improve the look of your skin and achieve a more youthful appearance by removing pigmented lesions will require only a few treatments. Darker, deeper and larger pigmented lesions may require additional treatments; however during the consultation, we will discuss treatment expectations with you.
What does the treatment feel like?
Most patients find the procedure tolerable. We do offer pain control measures to our patients that find the treatment uncomfortable. Pico Genesis delivers energy in ultra-short bursts, and patients often compare the laser pulse to a snap of a thin rubber band. Pico Genesis is safe for pigmented skin!
Is there downtime?
You may experience 24 hours of redness.
When will I see results?
The results for this treatment will appear gradually as your skin's natural regenerative abilities. For most patients, results are first visible about 2 or 3 weeks after the first appointment. Your results will continue to improve until your last treatment, or until optimal results have been achieved. However, depending on your treatment goals, you may notice results sooner or later than other patients.
Can Pico Genesis remove melasma?
The Pico Genesis laser is a unique treatment option for melasma because it does not produce heat. Without heat, there is no risk of causing inflammation in the skin and therefore no risk for triggering melasma.
